Our Story

Holla’s Produce & Greenhouses was established by Paul and Carole Holla in the spring of 1996 at our current location in Blezard Valley, Ontario. We began business with a small 18’x48′ greenhouse, selling bedding plants and a few hanging baskets. As each year passed and our customer base expanded, we added more greenhouses to accommodate the demand of flower product. We now have over 12,000 sq ft of growing area, and it’s still not enough at times!

Paul and Carole are both horticultural technician graduates from Niagara College, Paul in 1983 and Carole in 1986. Paul was a professor in the Horticulture program at Cambrian College from 1990 until the spring of 2004 when he left to work full time at the garden centre.

The greenhouses now start each year in mid February so that large hanging baskets and planters are ready for the Mother’s Day opening. Cuttings are planted and seeds are sown during the first several weeks. A great deal of transplanting occurs during the month of April and the first part of May. This way the plants are ready for the spring planting season that begins in earnest during the last week of May and into June.

Both hanging baskets and planters are the Holla’s family specialty. By mid-June, field crops are sown and transplanted in our field. They will be ready in August and September and sold at the Sudbury Farmers Market. By the third week of June, Fall garden mums are planted, enough so that every greenhouse is filled. Once September and October come around the greenhouses are in full colour and our door’s are open for the sale of our garden mums. Each weekend we try to bring a varied selection of mums to the Farmers Market for sale as well.

In the month of December, the greenhouses are open once again for Christmas. Come visit us and enjoy a cup of hot apple cider as you and your family browse through our selection of Poinsettias, Wreaths, Outdoor Arrangements and Christmas Trees.
